Eleanor Hamilton

“What a privilege to appreciate and
enjoy working with great equine
performers and athletes of all breeds!”

Eleanor Hamilton, owner of Eleanor’s Arabian Farm since 1985, grew up on a large cattle farm in the Nebraska Sandhills. The family’s farm, the Double R Ranch, began with 4,000 acres in 1943 with several more parcels added over the years. Eleanor’s early life on the farm was one of hard work but she found a fascination with horses. Eleanor graduated from the University of Nebraska with a degree in teaching Secondary English. Eleanor taught for one year and then moved with her husband, Harold, to Minnesota. She began a 29-year career as a Corporate Business Librarian with St. Paul Companies and in 1989 took an early retirement package to work full-time as the Treasurer and Director of Human Resources at Micro Control Company, the business that she and her husband started in 1972—a position which she continues to hold.

Taking up reining in her fifties, Eleanor served as the President of the Arabian Reining Horse Association (ARHA) for over 10 years, and previously held the secretary position on the Minnesota Arabian Horse Breeders (MAHB) board.

Eleanor was awarded the 2015 Breeder of the Year by the Arabian Professional and Amateur Horseman’s Association. The APAHA honored her in 2007 with the Amateur Working Western Award, and in 2012 with the APAHA’s Distinguished Service Award and again the Amateur Working Western Award. In 2006, Eleanor was awarded the HI-5 Mentor Award from the Sahara Sands group.  In 2017 Eleanor was awarded the Half-Arabian Working Western Horse of the Year for Built By Peppy trained and ridden by Lance Scheffel.  Along with being a pioneer and an original founder of the Arabian Reining Horse Association, Eleanor has donated a horse from her breeding program for a raffle held at the Scottsdale show each year.
